Phuket’s night markets are part of its culture. While many night markets are open only on Saturdays and Sundays, some are open every day. So, whether you’re in Phuket on weekdays or weekends, one of the most fun things to do is to scour the night markets for souvenirs and trinkets and try the street food and local delicacies available at great prices.
Phuket’s Must-Visit Night Markets
Many of the street markets are located near popular Phuket accommodations, each offering a wide variety of local handicrafts and delicious Thai food. They are mostly open from 4 pm until around 10 pm. Here are the most popular street markets to visit during your stay:
Phuket Sunday Walking Street Market, or Lard Yai Market, is located along a charming street with Sino-Portuguese shophouses and colorful stalls selling souvenir t-shirts, toys, textiles, ceramics, and accessories. You can enjoy traditional street food, desserts, and fresh fruit on the go, or sit down for some traditional Thai food at one of the many shophouses-turned-restaurants. This night market is open every Sunday on Thalang Road in Old Phuket Town.
Nearby is the Indy Phuket Night Market, which has a young and indie vibe to it. Located on Limelight Avenue in Old Phuket Town, Indy Market is a quaint market where many young Thai artists sell their creations. You can find shops offering trendy fashion and some bars and restaurants along the street. It is open from Wednesday to Friday.
Chillva Market is a weekday night market featuring bars and restaurants built from old shipping containers, giving it a trendy feel. You can find clothing and accessories that cater to the young and hip set. Enjoy popular snacks and street food from fried chicken and Thai sausages to mango sticky rice, and - if you’re in the mood for something exotic - insects like grasshoppers, silkworms, or crickets. You can also catch some local acts performing here. This market is along Yaowarat Road and is open from Friday to Sunday.
Naka Weekend Night Market near Central Festival Phuket is a large market with many stalls for those in a more serious shopping mood. Sometimes called the Phuket Chatuchak, a mix of locally made handicrafts and imported goods are available here, as well as a wide array of street food. The market is open from Friday to Sunday along Thalang Road.
Malin Plaza is located on Prachanukro Road in Patong. There are many stalls selling a variety of goods under a single roof. The market is popular for its stalls that offer cook-to-order local meat and seafood dishes. Some areas are air-conditioned, so you can walk around comfortably as you shop for good-quality souvenirs and other unique finds. Opens daily from 11am onwards.
Kata Walking Street Night Market is set behind a few hotels in the middle of Kata Beach, and is for those who prefer to eat more than shop. You’ll find a lot of traditional Thai street food being sold here, such as grilled meat skewers, seafood, roti, and pad Thai. You can also enjoy plenty of fresh fruit available. Additionally, there’s a large bazaar so you can do some shopping on the side. Open daily on Muang Patak Road.
Karon Temple Night Market only opens on Tuesdays and Fridays within the compound of Karon Temple on Patak Road. You can find various products, from clothing and accessories to spa products and other local handicrafts, perfect for souvenirs. There is also a variety of ready-made food, fresh fruits, and drinks to enjoy.
